Sons of Anarchy - The Push

It's going to take me until the weekend to write a full recap of Sons of Anarchy, 3.06 The Push (grrrr real life work demands) but in the meantime, here are some initial thoughts:

  • Take note, Jax: true love is standing in the bathroom talking to your wife while she takes a leak.
  • The deal with the Mayans seemed almost too easy. There has got to be a catch.
  • Gemma is going along with Jax and Stahl's plan. For now.
  • I think Stahl set up her girlfriend/colleague on purpose.
  • I could write volumes on why Jax's decisions in relationship issues lead me to have a tenuous grip on reality. Suffice it to say that I do think he loves Tara but I also think he has a bit of a madonna/whore complex going on -- in a way. He wants Tara to be good and save lives but he also wants her to know the full truth about his life in the MC. Jax is really wearing his indecision like a suit of armor, it keeps Tara close enough to suit him and the club but not so close that he genuinely has emotional intimacy with her. For now, I''ll echo Clay's "Don't make things more complicated than then need to be" and leave it at that. THANK GOD SOMEONE SAID THAT TO JAX.
  • This season is testing my bullshit meter in terms of the plausibility of certain plot devices. Doesn't anyone in SAMCRO have a credit card? Or a passport? Why has it been so hard for them to do seemingly basic things like get a telephone number? I've got to assume that at least Tara has an Amex card she could buy plane tickets with. Right?
  • I kinda think Kozick is a rat. Tig's "You can't trust him" seemed prophetic.
  • Opie No Hat! Again!
Overall, another fantastic episode. More to come this weekend.

  1. I don't know how long the Mayan deal lasts but I loved seeing a likable Alvarez last night. Especially when he says to Juice "You let these bitches take your cut? You're a disgrace to Latinos everywhere."

Stahl is one tricky bitch. I literally screamed "WHOA!!!" when I realized she set up her woman to take the fall. Guess you can't even be a fed's old lady in Charming without catching hell.

Jax and Tara. The symmetry of that breakup was well-written. The get together in The Pull, break up in The Push. They hook up next to a the body of a man they killed and break up while Tara's carrying his child. He begged her to stay at St. Thomas and tells her it's over at St. Thomas. Then, he goes off and bangs a chick that he won't look in the eye because we all know who he sees whenever he's inside someone. Damn damn damn.

  2. Yeah, the bathroom scene and then later cuddled up with Gemma watching The King and I, not to mention trying to talk some sense (even if a bit warped) into Jax... I was thinking 'What the hell?! I'm starting to like Clay! This is weird!' Glad we got a teensy bit more of Juice. And, yep, a likable Alvarez. Makes me a little nervous though.

The scene of Gemma giving her statement... seriously one of my favorite in SOA history. So genius. I thought she was going off script for awhile and I think I too literally yelled when I realized Stahl's plan. Woah. She's harsh. 'Smart bitch' though. Why isn't Gemma cuffed anymore...?

I feel super stupid saying this, but the 'bullshit MC' guy in the hospital... they killed him b/c of the driveby? Or something else? I'll have to watch again. I'm a little confused. The episode info said something about taking care of a rat at the hospital, which until now, I figured would be Margaret Murphy. I assume this MC guy was said rat, but I'm not putting the pieces together.

And Jax/Tara... so true Skinny Black Girl. I'm glad he at least broke up with her first. Sigh.

  3. They can't use credit cards or passports to travel to Belfast because they are out on bail for the gun charges when they went into the church last season and got arrested. That would make them fugitives if it was known they were leaving the area, let alone the country. That is why the bail hearing needed to be pushed back, that way people aren't coming after them unless they are thought to be runnning

  4. Plus it just seems like guys who do most of their communicating via prepaid cell phone wouldn't be big fans of credit cards.

Umm. I know we're supposed to hate that dirty deed that Jax did at the end, but ummm... He went to WORK on Ima. Sure it was detached and lacked intimacy but Jackie Boy deserves points for technique. lol

  5. I like Kozick. I don't know why, but I do. I am still pinning hopes on him being Tig's little brother. And he seems too eager to actually kill someone, and with everything I have ever seen/watched/read on U/C's, they seem to have hang ups on killing people.

Jax is really pissing me and the wife off this season. Last season, even season 1, he had his head on. This season he has turned into a giant brat, and it makes me want to punch him in the face. I'd rather side with S1/S2 Clay than this incarnation of Jax.

I agree with the Mayan deal being too easy...but remember how this season is supposed to reset for next season? I don't think we'll see it blow up until then.

  6. This episode broke my heart. First, Gemma is a bitch, then Jax screws the porn star. Tara needs to find someone in her life she can count on, it would be awesome if she started seeing someone new associated with the club because there's nothing Jax could do about it. I could really get behind that kind of revenge.

As far as the Juice Cut issue goes I felt that it was resolved far too quickly and easily. I mean I hate to see him hurt but the Cut is the physical embodiment of their place in the club, it is also an extension of the dick if the posturing in the show has taught us correctly. Yeah, he beat up Salazar but that bitch should have DIED for taking his Cut. Though watching the beating did do very nice things for me it wasn't nearly enough.
