Desperately Seeking Gemma's Sunglasses

While I'm working on the recap for Balm because it is taking me longer than I thought and damn it I'm buried in RL work, here's a little bit to tide us over.  I've been saving this item (among others) for a special SAMCRO holiday wish list blog but I figured there is no time like the present.  As I've mentioned before I want Gemma's sunglasses.  In fact, I covet them.  The rectangular shape, the metal frames, the gradient lenses.  Want.  Want. Want.  And behold after a rainy Saturday spent online window shopping, here they are in all their glory (right).  These are by Oliver Peoples, called the Elise sunglasses.  Available at Shop Bop and Neiman Marcus.

If the $350 price tag makes you pause  (As I'm sure Mr. Kayteadee will when he gets my Christmas shopping list this year.  Whether I get them or not, entirely depends on whether I've been naughty or nice this year.   Or both) there are some options that will get you a similar look for less cash. There is a great pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses (left) at Nordstrom for $98

And, last but not least a pair of Gucci sunglasses (right) at Neiman Marcus for $295

I think any three of these would make you or your lady feel a little more badass cruising around town.  Open heart surgery scar optional.

  3. Hi again, are you sure they are the walnut and not the purple haze?

  4. I'm glad I'm not the only one who covets Gemma's sunglasses.

@veelah, You know, I watched several episodes when I was searching for the sunglasses. I really think she wears 2 different pairs. Sometimes, it is the walnut. Other times it looks like the purple haze but it looks like the costume department has painted the frames because they are definitely a darker frame with the purple lenses. I think the purple haze ones were more prevalent in season one and the walnut ones in season 2.

    What do you think?

  5. Well, these are definitely the walnut: http://imgur.com/WApAx.png

However in this light they look more purpley: http://www.comedycentric.com/files/2008/08/sons-of-anarchy-perlman-sagal.jpg

That said, here's a stock photo of the purple haze from a different site, they look far too bluey: http://imgur.com/lE4ef.jpg

Maybe the walnut's effect in the light/contrast with skin makes that lovely pink?

Here's hoping! I'm in Australia so trying to find somewhere that stocks them is proving difficulty - also, with a $475AUD price tag. :(

  6. I have a feeling it is the walnut and the variation in skin color and sunlight make up for the variation. I have a pair of aviators that look more gold/amber in the morning and more brown/walnut during the afternoon.

With all of that being said, I think the Marc Jacobs ones are pretty close for a lot less money.

I'm saving up and hope to go try some pairs on in person. I'll probably blog about it if I do. Keep me posted on how your search goes!

  7. Found these in-store at Target. $17 is not bad for something similar to Gemma's,

  8. I will be getting my ass to Target tomorrow to check those out. After having to shell out for new tires (WTF? What do you mean you have to replace tires that have 71K miles on them? That is just absurd and unjust!) my sunglass fund has been depleted.

  10. That is helpful - kinda wish I would've seen the AE ones before I ordered the Oliver Peoples pair earlier today. The $260 price difference hurts a bit!
